MARTYNA HOPSA

#martynahopsa

Hi! My name is Martyna and my weaving journey began back in 2005 when I started an art weaving class at my art high school in Supraśl, Poland...or was it maybe when I was spinning balls of yarn with my granny as a child...or wait, could I always had it in my blood since my great grandmother was a weaver too?!

Might be hard to find the very beginning but fortunately it doesn't change anything.

Back to the high school - was terribly dissatisfied at first. I wanted to join the graphic design class but instead I was assigned to the weaving class. Why? Well, we all had to pass some exams and according to the examination committee I was much better with the composition and colors than the graphic forms...although according to my theory they simply had too few students in the weaving class, as it was not so popular that time.

But I guess there is no bad thing, because the weaving quickly turned out to be great! It steadily crept into my heart, so that in the fourth grade it was completely woven from yarn. It was then that I devoted most of the school year to weaving my graduation tapestry - Imponderabilia.I also fell in love with weaving by thin lines and contours, and my style become clearly illustrative.

I have been practicing my weaving skills ever since. I attended the fantastic Double Weaving workshop and mastered this old and unique technique under the supervision of Teresa Pryzmont. Really hope to use that technique more in the future.

Meanwhile I moved a few times finding my way to Iceland from Poland through Finland and England. Decided to stay here for a while, focusing on frame weaving and tufting works.

PS: there is no such thing as too much yarn!!!
